POLARIS FEVER

Polaris! Polaris!! Was heard from every corner of college. Finally the most awaited days of all the Wilson College BMM students arrived.

All the volunteers and staff members reached very early morning and started to work in their respective departments. The FY’s also were on time. It was really good to see that the FY’s were helping all their seniors in whichever way possible without even knowing us or having a clear idea of what exactly POLARIS is all about.

The TY’s were guiding us in their own ways as they have a good experience of what could go wrong and how to handle such situations without losing one’s calm. So their help was an added advantage to the POLARIS committee.

The BMM department is not much involved but all the staff helped us a lot. Even the head of BMM department Mr. Sudhakar Solomon Raj was very concerned that the events start and end on time scheduled for them.

The contingents that had participated in Polaris were extremely energetic and were co-operative. All of them had come up with different jingles to promote their respective contingents. The college hall was beautifully decorated with colorful so that one can feel the essence of our theme- carnival.

The festival started off well. The events were organized and the rest of the departments were working very efficiently to make this festival one of the best BMM festival. The hard work of the committee as well as the volunteers and the staff members paid off. The festival was a hit and was appreciated by other colleges as well as our H.O.D.

POLARIS was a huge success in spite of many ups and downs. And now we wait for our next POLARIS to come and we all are very sure that we will rock the festival in all the times to come.

God's most precious gift

Mother, maa, mummy, aai are different names which mean the same. The primary duty of a mother is to raise her child in the best way possible. From the time a baby is born a mother’s love and care is the only protection that a child gets without even asking for it. My mother actually is an ordinary woman but in her tiny appearance lies an extraordinary strength, a beautiful soul and a very kind hearted woman.

The mother, who brought me up in the toughest challenges of life, helps everyone in need and has a great will power. A person who faced all the situations in her life with a great zeal. It is through her I learnt the meaning of life, the values that make up a good person; to be optimistic in life and to face problems in your life with determination and to never let failure affect you or your path of success.

My mother has always thought me to help anyone without expecting anything in return. It is she who has taught me to appreciate everything that we get in life. My mother has always got what she had never expected in her life. But still it has never affected her determination. Mothers are always worried about the well being of her child but it is we who sometimes ignore her advice and then face the undesired consequences. But at that time also it is our mother who suffers more than us because a mother cannot see her child in pain.

Even before my tears could roll off my eyes my mother was there to wipe it, she feels my pain even before I could realize it, and she knows my needs without me even telling her. She’s been an extra ordinary woman who has always influenced my life and will always be. She has helped me grow physically, intellectually, emotionally. She has taught me to love, care and be happy in all the phases of your life.

God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers- Jewish Proverb

CINEMA

Cinema's today are the most and very powerful and popular media. It has reached every nook and corner of our country.Cinema's can influence a person's behavior and thoughts to any possible extent.

A person may try to imitate his/her favorite actor/actress behavior as they act in particular movie. So the movie directors should be very careful as what they portray in their movie as there are audiences who may perceive it in the wrong sense.

Cinema has the power to change a person's thought pertaining to some thing and also but it also plays a major role in shaping opinions. Cinema not only effects the national markets but also inter-national markets.

Some times cinema has adverse effects on people which is exploited by political parties to their advantage which leads to damage of public property and riots which effect the life of common people.

It is my only opinion to make movies which leads to betterment of mankind rather than destruction. Directors should even curb violence and stop glamorizing the ways to make fast money and reaching the top which is unfortunately followed by most of the youngsters today. Thus destroying their whole life.

CARNIVAL it is!!!!!!!

The annual BMM festival of Wilson College “POLARIS” had a promotional event on 10th July 2011. It was a parade from the college campus to the college gymkhana.

The parade was scheduled to start at 7.30 in the morning. Being a Sunday morning it was very obviously expected that there wouldn’t be much crowd for the event but it was not so. Not only had the different college contingent participated but also various departments from our college were actively involved in the parade and very well promoted their respective departments.

The college principle flagged off the event and gave us a green signal to start the parade. The Wilson BMM students and staff followed by the rest of them. There was bio-tech department which had very creatively come up with a DNA molecule made up of colorful pipes. There was nature club with beautiful banners prompting their department.

The contingents that participated had good PR strategies. Bata Bano, Paris and nice were some of the carnival contingents. There were continuous cheering, drum beats and much more. Wilson College had arranged for a horse carriage to enhance the theme of carnival. There were jokers performing some stunts.

The rains tried its best to reduce the excitement of Polaris but it failed. Because all of us were in such high spirits that nothing could stop us.

We reached the college gymkhana after an amazing parade. There the contingents were given a chance to promote their carnival after which the result for best PR was announced. It was followed by refreshments and rain dance by all the students.

All the members were happy and satisfied as their hard work paid off. The parade was successful in its purpose and it created a history as nothing of this sort was attempted before. And now we wait for the three days of Polaris. And as it is said, “all that starts well ends well”.

GO POLARIS!!!!!

Problems of Elder abuse

Today the world is moving at a very fast pace and in this fast moving world one of the most increasing problem is Elder abuse. Today the children are so busy in their hectic schedule that they do not have time to spend with their old parents.
The life of youngsters is so much into themselves that they do not like much interference from their old parents. They do even have time to speak to them. They need their privacy and think that their privacy is disturbed by the presence of their parents.

They do not realize that their parents were the one who have spent their entire life just making efforts so that their children can become capable enough and hence support them in their old age. But for youngsters today, it has become their forced responsibility to look and care for their parents. Ultimately they leave their parents in old age home where they have no known faces to help them in their times of need.

Once they leave their parents in old age homes, children just forget about them and get busy in their own lives. They don't even think of going and meeting them again not even once a month. They are least bothered to know the well being of their own parents.

Senior citizens are faced with so many problems like unemployment, malnutrition, depression, loneliness, isolation etc. Sometimes children leave their parents alone and shift abroad leaving their old parents open in the world of crime.

It is the responsibility in fact the duty of children to look after their old parents. When parents can take care of 4 to 5 children then why can't children look after their parents??? In this fast moving world one should not forget our roots but should always stay connected to them.

TERRORISM

A word which terrifies everyone from people in the highest strata of the society to the lowest is the TERRORISM. No one knows where these people come from, what's going on in their minds but their only intention is to kill innocent people and thus terrify the government to fulfill their unrealistic demands.I feel that these people do not have hearts or even if they have its turned into stone because to kill so many people mercilessly with out any reason is not a task which people with normal hearts can even think of doing.

I wonder what forces them to do this. But most of the times they are brain washed in the name of religion and thus they feel what ever they are doing is religious ant will make their god happy. But what about people like us who lose their near and dear ones with out any reason.

In the past few years terrorism has caused a lot of damage to the infrastructure of the country as well. But the only thing that the terrorist can never damage or destroy is the spirit of people in India.Be it what ever time of the day the attack or blast takes place, people are always ready to help in what ever way they can.
It is because of this spirit of the people that our country has survived even the most deadliest terror attack.People of India must need to set their differences and prejudices against each other aside and unite to fight against

TERRORISM.People need to be more cautious and alert of the happenings in their surroundings. If we manage to do this then we can face not only Terrorism but any other problems more bravely.

BMM

BMM...From the age of 15 I had a fixed mind to get in BMM even though I had no idea what actually was BMM..If anyone asked me “what are going to do after your 12th”?? I used to answer them very confidently that my planning to do BMM, and when they asked me what that course is about, I would tell them “that you can ask my mother”. By the time I cleared my 11th I had a clear idea what was BMM. So I knew that either I would end up in BMM or FYBA.

When I had my 12th results in my hand, I was very excited to go to different collages and fill my BMM forms and then there was a wait for the list to come out. My name appeared in the second list of Wilson collage and my happiness knew no bounds. I was so happy that finally I will be a media student.

Collage started and I was introduced to the different subjects in BMM. After my first day I was so sure that this course is not for me. I am not a confident speaker nor am I very good with my writing skills. As I shared this dilemma of mine with my mother she told that “it’s ok. You don’t need to worry as there is a lot of scope for you to learn and improve yourself”. And she was right.

As time passed, we had computers lectures and to add to my problem I was even more nervous about this subject. Because I had never ever heard of photoshop or adobe premiere. But it was not that difficult as I thought it would be. And then came presentations. But my presentations were good even though I was always nervous.

As first year came to end, I knew that what I was when I started this course and now I know where I stand. To end I will say that it was not a cake walk for me, not only me but am sure many more but I guess all of us now have a clear idea what are we expected to do in this course and I am surely trying to improve myself and I know that I will.

The three Things I love

My First love is cinema or Bollywood. I like watching any kind of movies be it action, comedy, romantic or a suspense movie. When I was a child, I had no idea about the different camera angles, different shots and different aspects that comprises a movie. But now being a media student and learning cinema in my curriculum it is good to have a different eye for every movie. Now whenever I watch a movie I try to analyze it from different view as how is the movie edited? How is the transition of the scenes in the movie, what are the different angles and how are they captured? Etc. It really feels good to know that the course I am in is adding to my knowledge of my hobby.

The second love of my life is my school days. Being a student it was so annoying to get up early morning and dress up for school and wear the same uniform daily. Tight oiled hairs with black shoes and clean white socks. Bags packed with books and Tiffin and bottle stuffed between the books. But now as years have passed, I feel school days were the best. School was the best place where I learnt so many things like values and discipline which are very important for my life. In school it was so much fun to see all your classmates present. Even the smallest break was enjoyed and Tiffin’s were shared. We can do the same in collage also but school life was very different and will always be very close to my heart.

The Third love of my life is my friends. A good friend is an asset to life. With friends, I can be myself. I know that they will understand me as they know me very well. It’s so much fun to meet your friend’s everyday and share even the smallest detail of your life. Even a simple walk from station to collage is memorable because we talk anything that comes in our mind and this is what brings us more close as we get to know each other. I am loyal to my friends and can count them in my hours of difficulty and so can they.
